For the third year in a row, Google giving US K-12 students the chance to have their drawings featured on Google.com. Doodle 4 Google asks students to draw images based around the Google logo. The theme of this year's contest is If I Could Do Anything, I Would... Students should create drawings that match that theme. The creator of the winning drawing receives a $15,000 college scholarship, a laptop computer, and $25,000 technology grant for their school. To enter the contest schools must register by March 17th and all drawing must be submitted by March 31. You can read all of the contest details here.
We are looking at area and perimeter in blueprints. Come check out Bucky's Blueprints for some extra practice.
Students have been testing their truss bridges' maximum live loads.
The bridges have been holding between 15 and 10 pounds! Great job!!!! I have been very impressed with the presentations the students have been sharing! Can't wait to see all the beautiful bridges that come in!
Third Grade is really making some progress on their multiplication tables. Here is one of my favorite games for all ages. My ninth and fifth grader- and all of my fourth graders- love the strategy in this game. Exercise your skill with factors and multiples: The Product Game Presentations are beginning on the students' PowerPoints on bridges. Students may also make a bridge to share with the class. This website introduces students to some of the troubles facing Haiti in a thoughtful way. Ayiti: The Cost of Life
We will begin building suspension bridges next week out of straws and dental floss. now that we have learned about compression and tension. I think the students will be very impressed with the amount of weight these bridges can hold and will enjoy seeing the compression and tension forces in action. We also have begun to look at two other types of brain boosters: analogies and sodukos. I have added several links to the right that will allow students to use technology to keep up with current events. Check it out!
We started our webquests this week. Students are using a great website, Building Big, to learn more background information about bridges. The students are doing a great job reading online for information. We are also exploring bridges that might be interesting to research. Check out this presentation about bridges that we watched in class.
We have worked hard on classification, deductive reasoning, and the basic physics of creating structures. We are starting an exploration of the PBS Building Big website. We will use this site to allow our students to practice reading non-fiction to gather information and analyze both sources and information.
Exploring Bridges We read and compared a non-fiction and historical fiction selection about the gorgeous Golden Gate Bridge. We also used satellite maps to take a quick field trip across the Golden Strait. We are exploring traditional and new methods of research that will help us in our independent studies this year.
We are continuing to work on critical and creative thinking skills in AGP as we begin our new unit on STRUCTURES. We are looking at structures in language, patterns in math, and are beginning to learn about the fascinating world of bridges.
We are learning about the organizational benefits of classification. Here is great game to play with someone or against yourself. You might find you love Quiddler as well:

Welcome to our AGP Website.
We are excited about a great year together. Our primary focus for the first nine weeks is to teach the students how to think critically while being allowed to express creativity in a variety of outlets.
Are our students critical thinkers and problem solvers?
Are our students globally aware?
Are our students self-directed?
Are our students good collaborators?
Are our students information and technology literate?
