Elementary Science (K-5)

"From the very first day of school, students should be actively engaged in learning to view the  world scientifically.  That means encouraging them to ask questions about nature and to seek answers, collect things, count and measure things, make qualitative observations, organize collections and observations.  Getting into the spirit of science and liking science are what count most.

"The emphasis on scientific engagement calls for frequent hands-on activities, but that does not imply that students must, or even can, discover  everything by direct experience.  Stories about people making discoveries and inventions can be used to illustrate what can be learned about the world by the varied people who do science."
